The University of Texas-Pan American women's golf team will look to rebound after a 10th place finish last week at the Fred Marx Invitational when they travel to the ORU Shootout hosted by Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK on Monday (Oct. 1).
The Lady Broncs enter the Oral Roberts Golden Eagle Invitational with high hopes in contending for one of the top-five spots. UTPA has posted two top-10 finishes in its lasts two invitationals.
"This tournament is going to be a preparation for our bigger tournament which is the UAB Fall Beach Blast," said head women's golf coach Ofelia Lopez. "Hopefully we'll be able to place in the top-five and gain some confidence going into our last tournament."
In their last competition, the Lady Bronc golfers were led by junior Bronwyn Sandberg (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada/ Bellerose Composite) who recorded a three-round tally of 235 (78-77-80) en route to earning 25th overall while junior Mariale Camey (Ciudad, Guatemala/University of New Orleans) leads the squad with a 78.2 strokes average.
"Bronwyn did really well under the circumstances. She stuck in there despite the rain. She really stepped in and fought till the very end," Lopez said.
The ORU Shootout will feature teams from Missouri State, Arkansas State, Oral Roberts, Texas at El Paso, Louisiana Monroe, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and South Dakota State.
The Lady Broncs will square-off against the field of competitors at the Meadowbrook Golf Course with tee times set for 9 a.m.
