After a successful second day at the UAB Fall Beach Blast, The University of Texas-Pan American women's golf team concluded the tournament with a fifth place showing on Tuesday (Nov. 6).
"The girls played fantastic on the second day of the tournament, said head women's golf coach Ofelia Lopez. "The golf course was very difficult, the level of competition was very competitive and the squad just stepped up to the plate today."
The Lady Broncs finished with their lowest two-round score with a (619) and posted their first top five finish of the fall season.
Newcomer Haley Hocott (San Antonio, TX/MacArthur H.S.) led the way for UTPA as she collected a two-round tally of 149 (77-72) en route to finishing ninth overall while senior Bronwyn Sandberg (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada/ Bellerose Composite) posted a two-round total of 152 (76-76) colleting 13th place honors on the second day of the UAB Fall Beach Blast.
Elizabeth Rodriguez (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood H.S.) took home 25th place with a two-round tally of 256 (74-82) while Mariale Camey (Cuidad, Guatemala/University of New Orleans) placed 39th overall with a two-round score of 162 (76-83), respectively.
East Carolina took home the tournament title with a 589 team total while UT-San Antonio (610), Louisiana-Monroe (612), Samford University (616) and UTPA (619) rounded out the top five.
The UAB Fall Beach Blast marked the end of the fall season for the Lady Broncs. UTPA will be back in action on February 25-26 when it competes in the Islander Spring Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the start of the spring season.
