The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis program dropped a 6-1 decision to the Texas State Lady Bobcats this Saturday (Feb. 6) afternoon at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
The Lady Broncs picked up their lone victory in No. 3 singles as Nina Ciric quickly defeated Texas State's Mariana Perez, 6-0, 6-2.
UTPA dropped No. 4 and 5 singles quickly with Gabriel Rojas defeating Sarah Burton 6-1, 6-3 and Nyssa Peele defeating Andrea Salvetova 6-1, 6-3.
In No. 2 singles, Luisa Cantu gave Melissa Hadad a run for her money, but fell short as Cantu dropped a 6-2, 7-6(3) decision.
Megan Bedeau, in No. 1 singles, took her match into three sets as she lost the first set 4-6, won the second set 7-6(2), and dropped the third set super tiebreaker, 7-10.
In doubles play, the Lady Broncs picked up a win in No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 victory over Giraldo and Hadad by Megan Bedeau and Luisa Cantu.
The Lady Broncs fell short in No. 2 singles with an 8-4 loss by Sarah Burton and Nina Ciric to Perez and Rojas. With the absence of Reetta Raty and Malin Andersen, the Lady Broncs had to drop No. 3 singles granting the Lady Bobcats the doubles point.
The women's team will have a two week hiatus before they hit the courts again as they face Houston on Feb. 20. The first serve is slated for 12:00 p.m.
