Lady Broncs Capture 6-1 Victory Over SFA

The University of Texas-Pan American Lady Broncs improved to (3-1) overall after recording a 6-1 win over Southland Conference-foe Stephen F. Austin this afternoon.

"We were a little shaky in the doubles but we managed to take the point," said head men's and women's tennis coach Rob Hubbard. "The women played fantastic in singles and it was a very good all around effort today."

The Lady Broncs started the day off with doubles' competition where tandem Giana Oliveira (Santa Anna, Brazil/ Eckerd College) and Julia Cirne-Lima (Porto Alegre, Brazil/ Eckerd College) captured a dominating 8-1 victory over Mary Harrison and Sanjuana in the top flight.

Silke Buksik (Waiblingen, Germany/ Salier-Gymnasium Waiblingen) and Megan Bedeau (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada/ Northview Heights S.S.) captured a victory of their own as they handed Roxana Enica and Christelle Kuempfer a 8-6 setback in the number-two spot while Luisa Cantu (Victoria, Tamps, Mexico/ Colegio Jose de Escandon) and Stephanie Willerding (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/ Northview Heights S.S.) dropped a 9-7 decision over Gabriela Gadeva and Tatiana Smolnikova in the number-three spot of the rotation.

The Lady Broncs dominated singles' action as they collected five of the six matches against the Ladyjacks.

In singles' action, Oliveira suffered a 6-1, 6-4 setback to Enica in the number-one spot in the rotation while Cirne-Lima recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sanjana Kapur in the number-two spot in the line-up.

In the number-three lineup spot, Bedeau handed Harrison a 6-2, 6-4 setback while Willerding captured a hard-fought victory in a tie breaker over Gadeva 7-6, 17-15 in the number-four spot.

Senior captain, Buksik collected a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Tatiana Smolnikova in the number-five lineup spot while Cantu handed Kuempfer a 6-0, 6-4 setback in number-six spot.

The Lady Broncs and Broncs will be back on the courts tomorrow where they will take on Summit League opponent-Centenary College.
