Women Defeat Central Arkansas in 7-0 Setback

The University of Texas-Pan American's womens tennis program recorded a 7-0 victory over Central Arkansas advancing to a 6-1 overall record.

In doubles action in the number two slot, Silke Bukisk and Megan Bedeau defeated Charissa Cloclough and Rebecca McCullough in a 8-1 decsion.

"Megan and Silke had an exceptional night; they played very well," said head men and women's tennis coach Rob Hubbard.

Giana Oliveira and Julia Cirne-Lima finished the night with a 8-4 victory over Jordan Short and Petra Keilova in the number one spot, while Stephanie Willerding and Luisa Cantu in the number three spot defeated Lindsey Short and Lisa Mainz in a 9-7 decison.

In singles action, Giana Oliveira led things off with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Petra Keilova. It was only the start of a successful night.

Following Oliveira's victory, Julia Cirne-Lima continued with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Heidi Miller in the number two slot in the rotation.

Megan Bedeau kept things going as she defeated Lisa Mainz with a score of 7-6, 6-2. Stephanie Willerding made the clenching fourth point as she defeated Jordan Short in the number four spot of the rotation.

Finishing up singles action, Silke Buksik defeated Rebecca McCollough with a score of 6-2, 6-3 and Luisa Cantu handing Charissa Colclough a setback over a 6-1, 6-2 decision.

"The women struggled a bit in doubles but bounced back in singles," added Hubbard. "I was very proud of them. Nobody dropped a set."

The women will be back in action tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. against Arkansas-Little Rock. The women will play their second match of the day against Tennessee-Martin after the men play against the third nationally ranked Tennessee-Martin. All matches are to be held indoors due to weather conditions.
