Tennis competition continues for both the men's and women's tennis programs as they head to Louisiana for match-ups against Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana and Southern this weekend.
The Lady Broncs are coming off a 5-2 victory over Southland Conference-foe Texas State on Saturday (Feb.16) and improved their overall record to 7-3. The Lady Broncs are off to one of the best starts in program history and are one win shy of tying their win total from last season.
Despite a 2-5 record, four of the Broncs five losses have come from nationally-ranked opponents. Last week against 56th ranked Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, newcomer Ashwin Vijayaragavan (Andhrapradesh, India/Kenedy Vidya Bhavan HS) dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 0-6, and 2-6 decision to Mikhail Pavlov playing in the number-two spot of the rotation.
In doubles' action, Vijayaragavan and teammate Ivan Avila (Mexico City, Mexico/Texas Southern) suffered an 8-6 setback against Pavlov and Dmitry Novikov in the number-one line-up spot.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs will look to return back to the Rio Grande Valley with three wins on their belt following their weekend in Louisiana.
