Women's Tennis Suffers 7-0 Loss to Lamar

The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis program suffered a 7-0 setback to Lamar this Thursday (March 26) at the Cardinal Courts in Beaumont, Texas.

Malin Andersen and Andrea Salvetova were the only Lady Broncs to pick up a win as they defeated Manijee Ashrafi and Salina Aranda in doubles by a score of 8-4.

The Lady Broncs dropped the remaining two matches in doubles as Stephanie Willerding and Reetta Raty were defeated 8-2 in the number-one spot of the rotation by Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Maria Gutierrez. In the number-three spot, Sarah Burton and Megan Bedeau fell short by a score of 8-7 to Manami Kuroda and Carla Nava.

Lamar defeated UTPA in quick sets as Mariaryeni Gutierrez defeated Willerding 6-0, 6-2 in the number-one singles, while sister Maria defeated Bedeau 6-1, 6-1 in number-two singles.

In her second appearance in the number-three spot of the lineup, Andrea Salvetova was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by Carla Nava. Andersen, who went 1-1 at today's match, lost 6-3, 6-0 in the number-four spot to Kuroda.

Freshman Reetta Raty was the only Lady Bronc to enter three sets, but was defeated 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 in a third set super tiebreaker by Ashrafi. In the final spot of the lineup, Burton was defeated 6-1, 6-2 by Aranda.

The Lady Broncs next head to Houston, Texas to face Rice this Friday (March 27) at the Jake Hess Stadium with start time set for 9:00 a.m. CT.
