In a word, revenge. In March of this year, Laredo Community College, NJCAA National Champions for the past five years in a row, stormed into Edinburg and made quick work of the Broncs defeating them 6-1. Today was a different story. The Broncs returned the favor by defeating LCC by the same score 6-1. On the women's side, the Lady Broncs fared even better defeating LCC 7-0.

"They ladies came out strong and played their game, and the men played well all throughout, we just fell a little short at the number three doubles," said assistant coach Silke Buksik. "Winning the doubles point is huge because it gives you the advantage. It puts the pressure on them since going into singles competition we already have one point."

The tennis match with Laredo Communnity College (LCC) began with doubles as Aswin Vijayaragavan and teammate Brett Bernstein defeated Cledson Carvalho and Felipe Baptista 8-6. Nirvick Mohinta and Beau Bernstein followed suit by defeating Mateus Campos and Charles Silva 8-1. LCC answered back as Antoine Rafaelli and Leury Arias defeated Marcus Dornauf and Abdelhamid Riani 8-5.

The women followed after the men's doubles winning all three matches. Malin Andersen and Andrea Salvetova defeated Laura Vergara and Amelia Arguindegui 8-2. Megan Bedeau and Sarah Burton defeated Stephanie Villarreal and Viviana Brizuela 8-0. The Lady Broncs completed the doubles sweep as Luisa Cantu and her doubles partner Reetta Raty defeated Kayla Garcia and Nathalia Siva 8-1.

At number one singles, Aswin Vijayaragavan defeated Cledson Carvalho 6-4, 6-1. Nirvick Mohinta suffered a 4-6, 4-6 loss to Antoine Raffaelli at number two singles. The Bernstein tandem of Brett at number three singles and Beau at number four singles each notched victories over the opponents with Brett winning 6-1, 6-4 and Beau beating his man 6-3, 5-7,10-7.

Marcus Dornauf defeated Mateus Campos at number five singles, 6-2, 6-4. Abdelhamid Riana wrapped up singles play by defeating Roberto Matas at number six singles, 6-3, 7-5.

On the women's side at number one singles, Luisa Cantu defeated Laura Vergara 6-1, 6-2. Malin Andersen, at number two singles, handily defeated Kayla Garcia 6-0, 6-0. Megan Bedeau notched a victory at number three singles downing Stephanie Villarreal 6-0, 6-0. Reetta Raty playing at the number four spot defeated Amelia Argundegui 6-0, 6-0.

Luisa Cantu

Sarah Burton playing number five and Andrea Salvetova playing number six each won the matches. Burton defeated Nathalia Silva 6-1, 6-1 while Salvetova won her match 6-0, 6-0 over Viviana Brizuela.

"We came out strong and we played like a team. Right now, the whole team is playing their best tennis. I attribute that to the fact they rely on each other to get the job done whether here at a match or at practice. I'm very proud of our performance today," added Buksik.
