The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis team will head to Waco, TX to compete in the 2009 ITA Southwest Regional Tournament hosted by Baylor University beginning on Friday (Oct. 16).
The Lady Broncs will send five players to compete in singles' in Luisa Cantu (Victoria, Tamps, Mexico), Megan Bedeau (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada), Reetta Raty (Tammisaari, Finland), Sarah Burton (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) and Andrea Salvetova (Plzen, Czech Republic). All women will be competing in doubles' play as well.
The women's event will feature teams from Baylor, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana State, Louisiana Lafayette, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southern Methodist, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Christian, Texas State, Texas Tech, Texas-Arlington, Texas-El Paso, and Texas-San Antonio. The
Lady Broncs look forward to compete in this year's regional tournament as they did not compete last year. The event will feature some of the top collegiate women's players in the country going head-to-head in both doubles and singles play. UTPA will compete in a field with over 130 players.
"I am excited that the girls will have a chance to play in the regional tournament this year. They have been playing great tennis this season and it will be good for them to compete against some of the best players in Southwest Texas", said assistant coach, Silke Buksik.
The ITA Southwest Regional Tournament begins on Friday (Oct.16) with women's singles' followed by women's doubles' play. The all-day tournament will finish on Tuesday (Oct. 20) and will take place at the Baylor University campus.
