The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis program stepped on court this morning for their opening singles matches at ITA Southwest tournament hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
The Lady Broncs started the day off the day with singles in the qualifying draw of the regionals tournament. Reetta Raty dominated her match against Nicci Yvanovich from The University of Texas-San Antonio winning 6-2, 6-1
Andrea Salvetova fought hard in her match but fell to Casey Kennedy from Southern Methodist University 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. Sarah Burton played Cally Warner from Sam Houston State University and was beaten 6-2, 6-3.
Melissa Hadad from Texas State 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, defeated Luisa Cantu. While Megan Bedeau played Laura Ring from University of Houston and fell 6-4, 6-4 after a hard fought match.
"Although we didn't have a coach all the girls came out and fought to the bitter end in all of their matches," said team captain, Megan Bedeau.
Raty continued in the second round and dropped 6-7(8), 6-4 to Elena Kazakova from University of Houston. While Salvetova played first round of consolations and was defeated by Alessandra Penessi from Lamar 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.
Bedeau played the last singles match of the day as she faced Alex Glebova from the University of Texas-El Paso in the consolations draw. She played strong and came up on top 7-5, 6-3.
The Lady Broncs are back on court tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. with singles and will begin their doubles in the afternoon.
