Rowena Hamlet begins her second season as a student assistant coach for The University of Texas-Pan American men's and women's track and field programs.
The UTPA student assistant coach became one of the most prolific sprinters in UTPA women's track and field history as she earned a pair of trips to the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Championships in the 400-meter hurdles.
During her junior season, Hamlet placed seventh overall at the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional Championships then finished 15th overall during her senior campaign where her time of 1:01.06 was the second-fastest time in program history.
Hamlet posted seven individual championships during her career with the Lady Broncs and holds the program record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.96, which was achieved at the Rice Twilight during her senior season.
The UTPA student assistant coach is also ranked in the top five in the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash during the outdoor season and the 400-meter dash during the indoor season. Hamlet was nominated for the UTPA Female Student-Athlete of the Year on two occasions and held the position of President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Hamlet is currently completing her bachelor's degree in pre-medicine and biology.
