The University of Texas-Pan American men and women's track and field program concluded the two-day meet at Yeoman Field House with outstanding performances at the Houston Invitational this past weekend.
Sophomore Vanessa Brown posted a third place finishes with a time of 25.46 in the 200M Dash and a time of 56.36 in the 400M Dash breaking the school's previous records.
"Vanessa did very well this weekend. She PR'd in both events and set a new school record," said men and women's head track and field coach Dennis Darling.
Carolina Izaguirre posted a first place finish with a time of 18:27.52 in the 5000M race. Teammate Diana Galloso finished in fourth behind Izaguirre with a time of 19:17.55 while Sara Rodriguez finished in fifth with a time of 19:29.62.
Sabrina Montalvo set a school record in the 60M hurdles with a time of 9.33. Liliana Cavasos placed respectively in her events finishing in 12th in the long jump with a jump of 18-01.50 and sixth in the triple with a jump of 38-06.75.
On the men's side, sophomore Gilroy Martinez finished sixth in the 800M race with a time of 1:57.62.
In the mile-run, Wally Gonzalez posted a fifth place finish with a time of 4:27.30 alongside with teammate Roly Vela who posted an eighth place finish with a time of 4:29.83.
In the 3000M race, Luis Nava placed sixth with a time of 8:42.22.
"I was very pleased with the team. They were a totally different team from the last time they competed. All around the team looked at its best. I think we're going to have an outstanding year," added Darling.
The men and women's track and field program will be back on the road on Feb. 16 for the UH/RunSport All-Comers Meet hosted by The University of Houston.
