UTPA head women's volleyball coach Angela Hubbard announced that Temple High School product Trenette Smith (Temple, TX/Temple H.S.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Lady Broncs in the 2008 campaign.
"We are very excited to have Trenette join the Bronc volleyball family," said Hubbard. "She has so much natural talent that is just waiting to be developed. She has an amazing leaping ability and a quick, fast arm swing that enables her to surprise many of her opponents. I am confident that Trenette is going to have a successful career as a Bronc."
A three-sport student-athlete at Temple High School, the newly-inked Lady Bronc was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball, track and field and basketball.
As a four-year starter in volleyball, Smith recorded 1,492 kills, 1,016 digs and 195 aces en route to a first-team All-District 13-5A selection in three consecutive seasons. The newly-signed Lady Bronc was selected to the Texas All-Region II-5A Team each year with the Temple Wildcats.
In her final season, the future Lady Bronc was ranked the number-two player in District 13-5A.
On the basketball court, Smith was a first-team All-District 13-5A award winner four straight seasons where she tallied 1, 761 points and ranks among the school's all-time leaders in scoring.
Smith qualified for the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Meet in 2006 in the long jump and finished fifth. Smith holds the school record in the long jump with a record of 18 feet, 10½ inches.
Smith joins Kristalyn Bielik (Manitoba, Canada/ Selkirk H.S.) as the newest members of the Lady Broncs to sign a National Letter of Intent, and the duo will be added to the roster in the Fall of 2008.
