Junior Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) led the Lady Broncs with a match-high 27 kills in UTPA'S 3-1 setback to Birmingham-Southern at the 2007 Loco's Invitational where she recorded her 1,000 career kill on Saturday (Oct. 13).
Heading into the match with the Panthers, Phillips stood her ground at 982 kills for her career, and after her performance on Saturday afternoon, she became the fifth player in UTPA history to eclipse the 1,000 kill mark.
The junior standout has accumulated 1,022 career kills to go along with 765 digs and 75 serving aces. Phillips collected 52 kills - averaging 2.55 hitting percentage - for the Lady Broncs in three matches.
For her efforts at the 2007 Loco's Invitational in Birmingham, AL, Phillips collected All-Tournament team honors recording 40 kills to go along with 94 total attacks and 19 digs.
Phillips sits 54 kills shy of surpassing former teammate Stephanie Reed who currently holds 1,076 career kills.
