The University of Texas-Pan American women's volleyball program closed out the season after posting a 3-0 victory over Texas Southern University on Friday, (Nov.10) in Houston, TX.
In the first frame, the Lady Broncs were able to pull away at the end of the match to record the 30-22 victory followed by a hard-fought 36-34 triumph in the second set to give UTPA the 2-0 advantage heading into the third and final set.
In the final match, the Lady Broncs shut out the Lady Tigers by a final score of 30-24. Deanna Schneyer (Diamond Bar, CA/Diamond Ranch H.S.) notched 12 kills to go along with a .375 hitting percentage.
Kellie Phillips (Chandler, AZ/Corona del Sol H.S.) recorded her eight double-double of the season with a 11-kill, 15-dig performance while Chelsea Blakely (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) dished out a match-high 26 assists.
Sophomore Rebecca Toddy (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) added a match-high 22 digs for the Lady Broncs.
Nicole Crane collected a team-high 12 kills to go along with four serving aces and eight digs while Simone Green dished out a team-high 18 assists, and Muriel Thymes added 17 digs.
The Lady Broncs held advantages over the Lady Tigers in kills (47-44), hitting percentage (.259-.235), assists (42-34), and digs (75-40).
UTPA improved its overall record to 13-17 on the 2007 campaign surpassing their win-total of six matches from a season ago.
The Lady Broncs will be back in action for their season-ending National Independent Tournament hosted by Utah Valley State in Orem, UT, beginning on Friday (Nov.16).
