The University of Texas-Pan American's Sarah Davis was named Great West Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the Great West Conference this past Tuesday (Nov. 17).

Davis, a freshman middle blocker, earns her first defensive honor of the season as she helped lead the team to a 3-2 victory over Houston Baptist this past Friday. Davis recorded four block solos along with nine kills on 18 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage.

"Sarah has come a long way since we first started the season. Everyday she improves more and more and I'm excited for her future here at UTPA," said head women's volleyball coach Angela Hubbard.

Davis, along with North Dakota's Annika Smed (Offensive Player of the Week), were the final volleyball players of the week for the 2009 season. Members of the Great West prepare for the Great West Conference Tournament this Friday (Nov. 20) and Saturday (Nov. 21) in Houston, Texas hosted by Houston Baptist.
