The Great West Conference announced Tuesday morning the recipients of the 2008 Fall All-Academic list with individuals from the men and women's cross country and volleyball programs representing The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

"I would like to acknowledge the commitment our student athletes have to their academic success in the classroom. I'm extremely proud of the hard work and dedication these student-athletes have put forth in attaining their life-long goals of education," said Academic Counselor Andres Cantu. "Their drive for academic excellence has made all of UTPA proud and has not gone without notice."

Senior Luis Nava and Omar Doria represented the men's cross country program while Carolina Izaguirre represented the women.

Luis Nava and Carolina Izaguirre also received First Team All-Conference for their performances at the 2008 Great West Conference Championship in Orem, UT.

The women's volleyball program consisted of eight Lady Broncs making the honors list with Chelsea Blakely, Marci Logan, Noelle Mayor, Kellie Phillips, Danielle Reed, Deanna Schneyer, Rebecca Toddy and Ytszel Trinidad all being named to the Great West Fall 2008 All-Academic Team.

Selection to the All-Academic team requires that student-athletes earn a minimum of 3.2 grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests. Student-athletes were chosen based on their most recent GPA.
