UTPA's Luis Nava and Carolina Izaguirre have been dubbed as the Great West Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week for the week ending Oct. 5, the league office announced today (Oct. 15).

"This is a great for our program. We work hard everyday with our sights set on doing well each and every time we compete," said Dennis Darling, Head Men's and Women's Cross Country coach. "Our goal is to have someone from our team to be named the Great West Runner of the week and this week it is extra special since we took both the men's and women's award. We are making our mark in the conference."
Nava earns his first player of the week honor after leading UTPA in collecting first place honors as a team at the Houston Baptist/Puma Cross Country Invitational. The senior ran the 5,000-meter course in 15:14 as Nava placed third individually
Izaguirre captures weekly honors after placing first individually at the HBU/Puma Cross Country Invitational while leading UTPA to a second place team finish. The junior placed first among 37 competitors on the 4,000-meter course with a time of 14:21. It was Izaguire's best finish this season.
The men and women will be off until November 1, when they compete in the Great West Conference Cross Country Championship in Orem, UT.
