The University of Texas-Pan American men's cross country program placed sixth at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships hosted by Baylor University this Saturday (Nov. 15) morning at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas.

The men's sixth place finish ranks as the second best finish in program history.

"These guys had a great season. They came in sixth today in a region that is very tough - they did exceptionally well," said head men and women's cross country coach Dennis Darling. "Finishes like this help promote the program and let people know we have a great program at UTPA."

Senior Luis Nava finished on top for the Broncs as he placed 21st with a time of 31:40.8 with fellow senior J.J. Hernandez finishing in 32nd with a time of 32:19.6.

Angel M. Ramirez crossed the finish line in 41st as he recorded a time of 32:36.0 with teammate Robert Najera finishing three spots behind in 44th with a time of 32:40.3.

Juniors Wally Gonzalez finished 62nd with a time of 33:18.6, Gilroy Martinez, Jr. in 100th with a time of 34:44.8 and Vidal Ruiz in 118th crossing the finish line in 40:22.7.

The men placed sixth overall with Texas A&M, Arkansas, Lamar, Texas and Rice rounding out the top-five.

On the women's side, Carolina Izaguirre placed 34th crossing the finish line in 22:06.7. Sara Rodriguez finished in 72nd place as she recorded a time of 23:24.0. Both Izaguirre and Rodriguez improved their times in a 6K this season by a little over a minute.

Diana Galloso placed 103rd recording a time of 24:46.7 while teammate Daniela Estevane finished 120th with a time of 27:15.7.

The NCAA South Central Regional Championships concludes the 2008 cross country season for both men and women.
