Joe Monaco begins his fourth year at The University of Texas-Pan American and his first year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations after serving three years as the Director of Athletic Media Relations and Sports Information.
In his role, Monaco serves as the Broncs and Lady Broncs' primary liaison with the local, regional and national media outlets while also operating as the main contact with the NCAA. A member of the UTPA Athletic Executive Staff, Monaco is responsible for the production of all athletic programs, media guides as well as the maintenance of the UTPA Athletics website - www.utpabroncs.com.
Monaco has also served as the on-site Director of Media Relations for the South Padre Island Invitational over the Thanksgiving holiday, which hosts some of the top NCAA Division I men's basketball teams in the country. At the SPI Invitational, he coordinates all media activities for the local, regional and national outlets as well as oversees the entire statistical crew. Monaco has performed duties as part of the media services staff for the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Sweet Sixteen as well as the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Sweet Sixteen.
In his role as Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, Monaco oversees all media relations activities and coordinates public relations strategies for all of UTPA's 14 NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletics programs. In addition, he serves as the primary contact for men's basketball, women's volleyball, men's and women's golf and baseball.
Prior to his position at UTPA, Monaco served two years as the Graduate Assistant Sports Information Director at Ashland University where he worked closely with some of the top NCAA Division II athletic programs in the country, including baseball, men's and women's soccer, wrestling, softball and men's basketball.
Monaco is an active member of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) where he is a part of the Publications Contest Committee.
The UTPA Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Communication and Journalism in 2002 and received his master's degree in Sport Education in 2004 - both from Ashland University.
Monaco and his wife, Mindi, were married in June of 2007 and reside in McAllen.
