Rebecca Sweat begins her second year at The University of Texas-Pan American as the Athletic Marketing Coordinator.
In her role as Director of Athletic Marketing and Promotions, Sweat oversees all public relations ties with community involvement and athlete and mascot appearances. She attends meetings with student organizations on campus to involve the student body and is also in charge of all game day operations involving all 12 NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletic programs. Sweat also works closely with sponsors concerning sponsorships and contracts and making sure every aspect of their contract is fulfilled.
Prior to joining the UTPA staff, Sweat was an editor for the Socialife News Magazine where she managed the monthly magazine distributions throughout the Rio Grande Valley, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas, Mexico. She also coordinated coverage of political, philanthropic, community and social events. Sweat developed editorial content including news and feature stories and managed the freelance writers and photography staff.
Before working with Socialife Magazine, Sweat was a correspondent for The Business Times of the Rio Grande Valley where she covered international government relations and economics along the U.S. border and wrote stories featuring young professionals and growing businesses.
Along for working for The Business Times of the Rio Grande Valley, she fulfilled two internships with the agency which specialized in the Hispanic Market.
Sweat gained her fair share of sports knowledge as a sports information intern for Saint Louis University. As an intern for the Billikens, Sweat design the 2007-08 Billiken women's basketball media guide and managed day-to-day relations with the women's basketball coaching staff. She wrote the post-volleyball stories along with calling play-by-play for basketball, softball and volleyball. She even assisted with press box management for the first round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
While in Saint Louis, Sweat also served as the Media Relations Assistant for the Missouri Valley Conference Men and Women's Media Day, Men's Basketball Championship and the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament - Midwest Region. She also assisted in the NCAA Sweet 16 and the St. Louis Sports Commission communications staff during the 2007 NCAA Frozen Four.
Sweat is a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Southern Association of Dance Masters, Leadership McAllen - Class XXVIII and serves as Public Relations Chair of 22/40 Exchange.
Rebecca Sweat graduated from Webster University in St. Louis, MO with bachelors in Public Relations and minor in History in December 2007.
